Let’s face it- kids have hated their parents since the beginning of time. These days, a parent’s goal is to minimize the tension and work toward a happy ending. Is it possible to raise a child who doesn’t blame you for everything? According to actor, author and proud father of three Alan Thicke, the answer is a resounding “Maybe!”
Alan achieved fame as America’s favorite dad Dr. Jason Seaver on Growing Pains, which ran for a resounding 166 episodes. But his experience isn’t limited to a fictional television role. He has three successful sons (one of whom has achieved world fame for an outstanding music career) and wrote his first book, How Men Have Babies: The Pregnant Father's Survival Guide in 2003, establishing himself as a model parent both on, and off screen.
As a follow-up to How Men Have Babies, Alan switches focus from the adventure of pregnancy to the task of raising well-rounded children with How to Raise Kids Who Won’t Hate You, using his own successes stories—and his “maybe that wasn’t the best decision in the world” stories— as a guide. With chapters like, “Honey, I Screwed Up the Kids!,” Why Does Daddy Throw Like a Girl?,” and “When Grown-ups Go Bad,” and input from respected psychologists, educators – and a parole officer—How to Raise Kids Who Won’t Hate You takes the reader on a hilarious yet informative ride. Delve into the pages of this book and get ready to learn, love and laugh with the wisdom of a dad’s perspective.
